How I wish I’d said that.

 Even though it gets a good review in today’s Guardian, I was not going to put The Bob Dylan Encyclopedia by Michael Gray (832pp, Continuum £25) at the top of , or indeed anywhere on, the books I must read list.  

However when I read that Gray describes U2 as an “inexplicably successful Irish rock group formed in 1980, fronted by one of the world’s most self-important and vain celebrities” I changed my mind. This has to be a man worth reading.
